An amateur operatic society from Wigan borough kept their golden streak going with yet mo regional honours.

It was a production of the Gilbert and Sullivan comic opera The Gondoliers that did it for Leigh-based The Three Towns at the annual North West National Operatic and Dramatic Association (Noda) awards.

It was named the best G&S production in the region after Noda judges visited during its run at St Joseph’s Hall in Leigh 12 months ago.

And the big reveal was made at an awards evening at Blackpool’s Winter Gardens.

Directors David Kay and Johanna Hassouna-Smith said they were delighted with the latest prize for a society which has enjoyed much silverware over the years.

But they can’t rest on their laurels because Three Towns’ latest production is almost upon us.

Their swashbuckling production of The Pirates of Penzance at St Joseph’s Hall runs from May 14 to 18, accompanied by professional orchestra.
